about

Love Alien is the recording from the Move Move Collaborative performance at 2640 Space in Baltimore, MD in June 2023.

The eight tracks played in sequence are the entire performance. Oré Akinsanmi, Majid Araim, Lucifer, Ariel C. Foster, Jake Freeman, Talbolt Johnson, Peter Redgrave, Ashley Shey, and Emmett Wilson made up the performers from movement cohort. The score for the performance was developed by these folks using the least hierarchical mode we could.

We had support from Ọmọlará Williams-McAllister, who helped us feel technology for distributed leadership, and Lotus Biko Johnson, who drew the cover image during one of our workshops.

Lotus drew the score and explained that he was offering us was a Love Alien who came from a planet where people were controlled by money, but when they saw the picture the Love Alien showed them, money lost its power. Those of us who were in the room when this explanation was transmitted knew what we had to do. We knew the title of the dance we were making. We asked Lotus if we could use the image for the cover and the concept as the title for our piece. Lotus agreed.

The Movement cohort was joined by four musicians on the day of the performance: Michele Blu, Che Davis, Orlando Johnson, and Bonnie Lander. We talked through the score that we had come up with over the week before and then we performed.

All of the money that Peter gathers through the sale of this album will support the 2024 Move Move Collaborative cohort.
